Our whitening packages

bleaci

Bleaching which uses strong oxidizing agent to lighten the teeth, is a relatively conservative and often highly effective way to brighten your smile. Our staff may recommend in office or home bleaching or a combination of both depending on the nature and severity of your stains.

Bleaching is frequently used to treat mild to moderate surface and intrinsic stains but may not completely eliminate darker stains. Bleaching may be the best option if you:

  • Have mild to moderate tetracycline, fluoride, or trauma- related staining
  • Are happy with the shape and proportion of your teeth
  • Prefer a more conservative, noninvasive approach

What is the intrinsic stain?

  • Include white splotches on the enamel surface and bands of brownish gray across teeth
  • May be caused by faulty hardening of the tooth before birth or the interruption of normal enamel formation by medications or disease
  • Often appear in people who were treated with the antibiotic tetracycline before the age of 8 years or whose mothers took the drug while pregnant
  • Can result from the use of the antibiotic minocycline
  • May be caused by advanced decay or by old or defective silver fillings

In-office bleaching

whitening-photoThe methods used for bleaching teeth in the office depend on whether your teeth have undergone root canal therapy. Teeth that have received this treatment are termed nonvital because they’ve had the nerves removed.

If you’ve never had a root canal therapy:

  • We will isolate the teeth being treeted, which protects the gums from discomfort and irritation
  • The outside of the teeth will be coated with a chemical solution and may be exposed to a special light for 30 to 40 minutes.

If you have received root canal therapy:

  • The root canal will be reopened, a bleaching solution placed inside, and the canal resealed with a temporary filling.
  • The bleaching agent will be removed when we determine that you’ve achieved the desired tooth shade

Home bleaching

  • You may need a “touch-up” bleaching session every 6 to 12 months.
  • Do not use any home bleaching product if you are pregnant or nursing a baby
  • Home bleaching can have adverse side effects, including tooth sensitivity, a burning sensation in the gums, soft tissue sores or ulcers, or a sore throat from swallowing the bleach
